Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine is highly addictive and can harm adolescent brain development, which continues into the early to mid-20s.

Some e-cigarettes look like regular cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. Some look like USB flash drives, pens, and other everyday items.

E-cigarettes, also called vaporizers, are marketed like candy.

How Harmful are E-Cigarettes?

Brain: Vaping nicotine increases the risk of addiction and can affect your memory, mood, and attention.

Lungs: Tiny particles and heavy metals go deep into your lungs, making you cough, weeze, and feel short of breath.

Heart: Nicotine speeds up your heart, raising blood pressure and increasing the risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart disease.

Eyes and Ears: Chemicals in nicotine vaping products are linked to macular degeneration, and thyroid eye disease. Nicotine harms hearing by limiting blood flow to your inner ear.

Skin and Hair: Nicotine ages skin! It can also harm hair follicles, causing hair to fall out.

Nose and Throat: Vaping dries out nasal passages, increases nose bleeds, and contributes to sinus infections.

Teeth: Flavors in vapes weaken the enamel on teeth, leading to more cavities, and contributing to gum disease.

Bones: Vaping weakens bones, making them more likely to break.
